“YOU’VE BEEN NURSING the same bottle now for nearly an hour. Are you going to tell me what’s eating you up?” Logan asks as we stand by the bar.

He’s right, of course. This is my first drink and I’m in no hurry to finish it. I have no idea why I agreed to come out. Or maybe I do. I needed a distraction. Knowing Jess is going out with Lee tonight has left me feeling jealous. From what Jess said, they’re going to some club, and I’m well aware what happens in clubs. The thought of her dancing and some sleazy man trying to put his hands on her makes me feel sick. I swear to God, if anyone lays a finger on her, I will make them pay.

“What? I’m not in the mood tonight.”

“No, you don’t seem to be, but I’m sure I know what you are in the mood for. Jessica.”

“Leave her out of this,” I snap.

“Well, at least I know the cause. You may as well tell me what’s wrong.”

“She’s off out tonight to some club with Lee.”

“And why is this bothering you so much?”

“Because I was having a fucking great day with her and I wasn’t ready for it to end!” I shout at him, causing a few customers to look in our direction.

Logan waves the barman over. “Can we get another two beers and a couple of shots? Anything at all. My friend here needs to loosen up.”

The barman smiles and gets our drinks.

“I do not need to loosen up.”

“You do, and you also need to get laid.” He might be my friend but that won’t stop me from hitting him if he doesn’t quit it. I don’t want to get laid.

“Fuck off,” I tell him. The barman puts our drinks down in front of us.

“Some of the lads are heading to a new nightclub. I think we should join them. You need to put some distance between you and Jessica.”

I’m not sure if he’s right or not, but I nod as I lift the shot from the bar and down it. What harm can it do going to a club with the lads? Fuck, I know what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to distract me. Pull me from this God-awful mood I’m in. But a club with the lads? That’s the last thing I should be doing. He has me questioning myself. Would putting some distance between me and Jess help? No, it won’t, because I want to spend as much time with her as I can.
